Series On Progress

This is a series of digital print that explores the nonlinear correlation between the Scorched Earth Policy executed in Changsha, China, in 1938 and the current gentrification policy executed in the city downtown. This series of digital print starts with the photographs I took in Chaozong District which is the area that will be reconstructed as “historic district” . After printing out the images of the decrepit buildings that will be demolished soon, I paint with green oil paint partly and scratch over it. After scanning the manipulated digital prints, I photoshop the digital file and use color select tool to delete the part of green and overlay the archived images of the city taken before 1938. Then, I print out the digital file again and scratch it over again...

There is no past and present with vanishing perspective flattened into white.

This series digital print combines all the prints in the progress of making and the digital prints collected from the VR space. Echoing the immersiveness of VR experience, this new digital print re-flattens the virtual dimensional space.
